- Press Shift + Command + 4.
- Your cursor will turn into a crosshair.

- Release the mouse button to take the screenshot.
- The screenshot will be saved as a file on your desktop.
- Capture a specific window or menu:
- Press Shift + Command + 4 + Spacebar.
- Your cursor will turn into a camera icon.
- Move the camera icon over the window or menu you want to capture.
- Click the window or menu to take the screenshot.
- The screenshot will be saved as a file on your desktop.
Note: On newer Mac models with a Touch Bar, you can customize the Control Strip to include a Screenshot button for quick access to screenshot options.
Additionally, if you want to take a screenshot and copy it to the clipboard instead of saving it as a file, you can press the Control key in addition to the keyboard shortcuts mentioned above. For example:
- To copy the entire screen to the clipboard: Press Control + Shift + Command + 3.
- To copy a selected portion of the screen to the clipboard: Press Control + Shift + Command + 4, and then select the area.
These instructions should work on most Mac models running macOS. However, if you’re using an older version of macOS, the keyboard shortcuts or the location where the screenshots are saved might differ slightly.
