Founded in 1963, Xcel began by fabricating electrical control panels for steel mills and various automotive part suppliers and continue to do so today. The use of programmable controllers in panels became widespread and Xcel saw the need for an easier programming tool and created UP/DOC software. We then started building industrial computers for use in the harsh environment of the shop floor. In April 1992 we began shipping "Tower Lights" controllers, a new state-of-the-art tower lighting controller that follows the strict new FAA requirements.
