AR2 for Tower Lighting
The AR2 system provides total monitoring of a tower. The following is an example of how the AR2 monitors a bad night at a tower site.
At dusk the tower's lighting is controlled by a photocell. If a photocell fails the AR2 takes care of it. With the latitude and longitude set in the AR2 unit, it uses UTC time to calculate sunset as well as sunrise. As the sun sets the AR2 unit detects that the lights are not on and overrides the photocell, turning on the tower's lighting. The AR2 unit also sets an alarm and notifies the people on its "call" list for this particular level of failure. For this example the AR2 unit will fax the tower owner's office as well as fax and page maintenance personnel.
Later on in the night, Bulb 2 in Beacon 3 burns out. The AR2 unit receives failure notification from the "Tower Lights" controller (or other approved controller) and within seconds begins its work again. This time the AR2 system; faxes the tower owner's office, emails & pages the tower owner and maintenance personnel. The response time here is critical because all bulb failures MUST be reported to the FAA immediatly to prevent fines to the tower owner.
The maintenance guy shows up in the morning and replaces the burnt out bulb and faulty photocell that got shot out by a Jr. Marksman's "BB" gun. The tower owner later "checks" the tower from his home computer and see's that the problems have been taken care of. While he's there, he checks the logged data and see's that the service door was opened for 1 hour and 13 minutes, so he knows what to expect when he get's the repair bill.
